Sculpture in Clay: British Ceramics 1985 to Now
Focusing on the work of British artists from the mid-1980s to the present, Sculpture in Clay: British Ceramics 1985 to Now will explore how the use of clay has expanded the possibilities of sculpture, presenting the material as a potentially radical and avant-garde medium. De Waal's work will be included alongside that of other major figures.
Through an art historical lens, the exhibition will unfold across four chrono-thematic sections, each examining how artists have reinterpreted, subverted, and challenged conventional ceramic practice to create novel works. Each section will include key works and be supported by the voices of the artists themselves. Incorporating a number of major installations alongside discrete individual pieces, the exhibition will present the work of a number of significant artists including Jacqueline Poncelet, Antony Gormley, Edmund de Waal, Richard Deacon and Clare Twomey.
