This essay, referencing Rainer Maria Rilke's writing and his correspondence with de Waal's grandmother, Elisabeth, was first published in 2022 by Galerie Max Hetzer, Berlin, in a pamphlet accompanying a series of new works.

This text accompanied the 2024 exhibition of the same name at Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin, which referenced the works of Rainer Maria Rilke, Denise Riley, and Paul Celan.
